Homework

📝 Homework 1 – The “Future You” Digital Audit

1 – Social Media “Health Check”

Imagine a future employer, university admissions officer, or the parents of a partner are looking you up online.

  1. Google Yourself: Type your full name into a search engine (and switch to “Images” view). Check to see if anything good or bad appears on the search. If it is bad then contact the website owner asking for it to be taken down.
    • Note: If you have a common name, add your town or school name.
  2. Check Your Settings: Open one social media app you use most (e.g., Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, or Xbox Live).
  3. Write down:
    • Is your profile set to Public or Private?
    • Can strangers see your friends list?
    • Can strangers see your location (e.g., Snap Map)?

2 – Scenario Analysis

Read the following scenario and answer the questions below in full sentences.

Scenario: Alex is 14. He is angry at a teacher for giving him a detention. He takes a photo of the teacher from the school website, edits it with a rude caption, and posts it into a group chat with 15 friends. Two friends find it funny and screenshot it to share on their own stories. Three years later, Alex applies for a prefect role at school.

  • Question A: Explain how this post could damage Alex’s online reputation, even though he only posted it to a private group chat.
  • Question B: How might this “digital footprint” affect Alex’s chances of becoming a prefect or getting a job in the future?
  • Question C: What one piece of advice would you give Alex to help him repair his reputation?

Submission Requirements

  • Submit your answers on the Teams assignment.
  • Do not attach screenshots of your personal profiles (for privacy reasons). Just write your observations for Part 1.
